OCTOPUZ Product Update: January 2025 release

By James Schnarr, Senior Product Manager

The January 2025 release of our next-generation OCTOPUZ software is here, and it's one of our most transformative updates yet! Packed with powerful new features, this release is designed to streamline robotic programming and supercharge your production efficiency like never before. Get ready to elevate your automation game and achieve faster, smarter workflows.

Enhanced automated weld detection

Our revamped weld detection automation now excels at detecting weld locations in parts with complex assemblies. Identify the optimal weld points on multi-body CAD parts, making automated part programming faster, more accurate, and efficient.

Effortless pendant sync for touch-ups (for ABB and Yaskawa)

Keep OCTOPUZ programs in sync with pendant modifications by instantly importing updated touch-up positions all at once. This feature quickly updates your OCTOPUZ program to reflect any positional adjustments, ensuring consistency across platforms with minimal effort.

Intelligent Path Adaptation

Seamlessly transform existing paths to fit new positions, automatically adapting to variations in size and orientation for enhanced flexibility and precision in part programming. This eliminates the need for more manual programming, saving time and ensuring consistent accuracy when designing for similar parts with varying geometries.

Robot Envelope Visualization

Easily visualize the robot's working envelope as a 3D sphere, enabling a clearer understanding of reach and limitations within your work environment.

Visualizing a robot's working envelope can be useful for reach studies when determining if a robot can reach a part, or while cell building to determine what potential objects could be in collision with the robot.

More options for 3D World Entity Selection

Simplify your workflow with improved selection tools. Click or drag to select paths, searches, and motions directly in the 3D World for faster and more intuitive editing.

More improvements

  • Define Origin, Define Base Frame, and Define Tool Frame panels now share a common UI, and have the same method options.
  • On the Mechanism panel, there is a new “Remote Tool Jog” option for robots. Enabling this option will place the 3D world jog operator on the base frame instead of the tool frame. This is useful when programming robots with remote TCPs.
  • When importing statements, it is now possible to change “Program Destination” to define what programs statements will be imported too. In addition, it is now possible to select and import multiple files (of the same file type) during the same operation.
  • It is now possible to modify multiple ‘non-local’ (imported or merged) paths at once.
  • File select buttons in panels (e.g. Add Component, Import Statements) now work with drag and drop. Drag files to the control to select them.
  • In Customize 3D World, it is now possible to choose colour options for various entities in the 3D world, such as hover and selection colours, and move and path colours.
  • Plenty of other performance and UI/UX improvements, plus a number of bug fixes.
